A staff member (green keeper I think) came upto me on the Dawson's 2nd green tonight asking to see my receipt. I told him I didnt have one. I went on to explain that I had payed my £7 and teed off on the Lakes at 4:10pm. I played 18 holes in only 2 and a half hours and thought I would play the 1st few on the Dawson before going home because it was late on and quiet. I gave him my membership number and apologised coz I realised I was in the wrong. Thankfully common sense prevailed and he said it was ok. Thank you to that man. He explained that quite a few people have been caught on the course recently without paying. So its good to see the course being policed in this way. Like I said I know what I did was wrong but it was good to see a bit of common sense being used on this occassion. I would never just turn up and play a few holes without paying. I only did it coz I flew round the Lakes in know time at all and coz it was very late on. I ended up playing the 1st 5 holes before walking off. I'd be interested in other peoples opinions.
Have mixed opinions on this one as why should it be ok to play a few extra holes for one person but then someone else will have to pay. Ultimately I think the right decision was made, given your explanation.
Although great to hear people are been challenged to produce a receipt for payment.
Yep - good to see there are checks being made but is there really a problem?
I'm amazed that someone would have the balls [no pun intended] to turn up to a course and just tee off.
My son was playing a one-off hockey game recently on the astroturf so instead of doing the dad thing and feigning interest I asked if it was okay just to play four holes on the Dawson while I had a spare 40 minutes. No problem from Graham, but perhaps it's always best to ask first - whilst I agree there's no harm done its pointless putting yourself in that situation for a two minute job ...
