It'll be dropped about 18" hopefully. Its a big job tho as we'll have to re shape around 20 ft around it.

| Played the Dawson course today and on the 8th and 10th green noticed quite a bit damage to what looked like burrow holes from an animal. Just wonder if this has been reported and when they may be repaired as know there is a qualifying competition coming up on the Dawson course which im looking forward to playing in next Saturday once i register for it.. |

Greens are playing well at the moment, played the Dawson 3 times in the last 5 days and they are rolling as good as I have seen them. Still one or two pins cut on the slopes though |

| Played again last night and the greens are rolling well, particularly on the new holes. Could we perhaps have the goose sh*t cleared off the 10th green on the Dawson before Sundays comp though? Apart from that, the course is lush...fairways have a nice bit growth on them, greens rolling well, no lying water considering the rain, excellent! Just need EVERYONE to fix their pitchmarks and divots and the course will be even better |

I have to agree with the above, I have not played the course for a few weeks now the last being Captains day. In the most the Greens have come on but some golfers and i use that term loosly need educated in the fine art of Pitch Repair and divot replacing. How long does this need to be discussed? until we just give up say what the hell and get on with having lumps out of a fairway and holes in greens? I am not about to say how many we fixed / repaired during our round last night but for the life of me why do people not do it when they see them!!!!!
This may boil down to the general lack of intrest in the course as I am sure the vast majority of players are not members of Longhirst but people taking advantage of the offers in hand. I am not trying to cause friction merely pointing out a fact that they dont care about the course they simply want a cheap round of golf and a buggy to fly around in. This was off course evident last night and not a figment of my imagination. I am also well aware that Graham and his lads do a great job in preparing the golf course for our enjoyment and it is impossible for his team to follow every group on the course, but that then sort of leaves the ball in our court to buy a pitch repair tool learn how to use it and replace our divots.
Maybe a few signs to give people a gentle reminder may help, surely it is worth a try.
Sadly it seems that we are going over already well trodden paths but it is sad that the enjoyment of most is being slowly destroyed by individuals that could not give a toss about Longhirst nor its much maligned members who continue to bring up subjects on this forum.
Also when I am on the subject what is happening on the 10th of the Dawson it is like a war zone on that green sh*t everywhere several massive holes and the actual hole looks like a grenade has gone of in it? its a shame but it is a disaster!!!! |

I played Monday and the dawson greens were a nightmare.
had been spiked and then not rolled properly.
I assumed there must be a comp on but not this weekend so why so much damage ? _________________ member for 7 years, is that an itch? |

spiking of the greens is essential. You would have played a few newly spiked greens that hadnt been cut immediately afterwards. Once they've had a couple of cuts following, they are great. Spiking with the micro tines enables and helps root growth. After a period of really heavy rain, alot of traffic, and machines on every day, they greens need to breath, so this helps a long way. The Lakes will be done next week after the club championship. Hope this helps.
