I wonder if it would be possible for someone to put up a large poster in luminous orange writing in the clubhouse, reminding visitors (and some members) about slow play !

It took the three of us 4 hours 45 minutes to get round a couple of weeks ago !!

we were waiting next to the tee box of the group in front, after catching them up for the third time, only to watch three of them slice there balls into the lake and one into the rough !!

What did they do then ? they stood round laughing about it and all slowly got out another ball from there bags,

They eventualy allowed us through, only for us to get stuck behind another group who spent five minutes wandering round in the rough looking for there balls !

when it is busy, we sometimes play a free drop rule if you lose your ball in the rough, it speeds up play and stops the group behind from fireing donnays up your @rse !!

I realise I probably talking to myself as I think there is only the five of us on this forum ! maybe we could have a notice advertising this forum as well .

Rant over (for now anyway!)

Totally agree Andy.  Letting people thru at Longhirst just doesnt seem to be the done thing.  Sadly its not always visitors to blame.  I am not sure why but members seem very reluctant to let others thru.  I play at alot at other courses and i have never came accross the problem to the extent that I have encountered at Longhirst.
I'm not sure why but I am guessing its coz its a relatively new course and etiquette is something that is learned over a lot of years.  Etiquette is a very big and important part of the game of golf, and it is sadly lacking on a few issues at Longhirst.  I say this coz other things such a talking too loud or even shouting on the course, repairing pitch marks etc are also a big problem.   I am sure over the years these things will improve...........hopefully!!!

I agree too, for the past two weeks from the first tee ive know it was going to be a long day and thats not as a result of it being busy. Hopefully a reminder can be put about to allow to play through if your serching for a ball or can not keep pace with the group in front.

To the four golfers???(you know who you are) if you read this forum can I suggest that you read up on golf etiquette,it will probably mention that if a two ball (us) are playing behind four ball (you lot) and there is a clear hole or more between the four ball and the group in front then you would normally let the two ball play through thus eliminating the the two ball having to endure a four and a half hour+ round of golf and waiting around for the clowns in front to speed up as we had to do today,or are you just ignorant selfish and inconsiderate and by the way I never seen any of you replace your divots or repair pitch marks.
