Hi admin - not sure why there's an issue booking buggies in advance and I'm not too bothered if its first come first served either but I had a round with a two-ball from out of the area who played the Dawson with us on Saturday morning and were due to tee off on the Lakes at 3.20 ish [there were five of them, booked under Clarke].
Their party wanted buggies for the afternoon and I told them to go to the clubhouse as soon as they finished the first round as theres the new sign saying 'first come first served'.
They were told that it was too early for them to book the buggies which I thought was a bit churlish to be honest. It's either first come first served or it isnt.
I'm bringing a couple of mates up over the August Bank Holiday and they are bound to want a buggy so how can I ensure I can sort this out for them? I'm quite happy to get there an hour early and have me breakfast as long as I can get a coupe of carts ....
any comment welcome .......

Hi
This really is a difficult one for us. It is all borne from they're success. Sometimes I wish we had 111 instead of just 11. If I reserve a buggy for say 10 am, it basically can only go around once , maybe twice. Its all down to making the most of our small fleet and maximising their use. If you come in, have a bite to eat and book your buggy that is not a problem. The trouble occurs when there could be a few buggies pre booked on the rank and arguements start on why they cant go out. Anyway The current booking basis appears to be the fairest and everyone seems to understand why we do it. I hope this helps in some way. |

Nope - that didnt work at all. We arrived at 0825 for a 0932 tee off to be told that all buggies were booked because "societies get priority"
Bloody embarrassing it was. My guests' first impressions of the club was that they care more about visiting parties than members.
Its either 'first come first served' or it isnt.
And this isnt
Whilst I congratulate you for maximising profits I question why visitors are held in a higher regard than members. |

| Guys its got to be one policy only. With regard to the group booking, the group in question rang on their way here at 7.45 to arrange the buggies. We used to try and keep buggies back then we get arguements in the shop why like "why cant we have the 2 thats out there". The only way to work it is if there is a buggy there you can have it. As for non members getting better treatment, well, its not true at all. |

| Longhirst will never be able to satisfy everyone when it comes to buggies. I however agree that the buggies should be on a first come first served basis and not reserved over a phone call as was the case this weekend.(Admins reply) No one should be able to book them regardless of how much notice they give, it is not as if they are going to stand idle, they may not get used twice a day but at least everyone will have the same opportunity to use the ones that are available, it is in my opinion the only logical solution to what has been a sticky subject for a while. It would be interesting to see where Tony was given the information that societies get priority. Maybe Tony you could pass that info on. |

Totally agreed - but when I asked the question at the top of this thread I wasn't told there was an opportunity to phone up as the society did. If the policy is clear - ie, first to call the pro shop gets the buggy then fair enough but at least pass this information to the members.

Yes, I asked on Saturday why I couldn't have one of the ten or so that were outside, to be told by the lad in the pro-shop that 'societies get priority'.

But they did! They got to phone up, whereas I wasnt given this option [see your quote of August 12th]
Its a very frustrating situation - perhaps there is a better solution and maybe thats just making the policy clearer than it is now. At the risk of sounding rude it looks to me like its being made up as we go along.
Maybe you could book them subject to availability for any round starting before, say, 0845 and then its first come first served throughout the rest of the day?
Out of interest, do the visiting parties pay more than a member for a buggy? |

The problems will still rear their ugly heads if there is any opportunity to "BOOK" buggies, all these problems disappear if there is one simple rule and everyone is clear on what that rule is. As i said in my previous comments. It, in my humble opinion should simply be if there is one on the line, then you can have it, if not, to put it bluntly "unlucky"
There would be no animosity if it was published somewhere and adhered to. I can understand that there may be frustrations surrounding these buggies but in the end of the day there are only eleven and no matter how hard poeple try to accomodate everyone this is simply impossible. I have made my point and can see no other solution. I wont hold my breath on the buggy situation as I dont make the decisions. |

201913, I'm not really bothered what the rules are, as long as they are written out, displayed and everyone sticks to them. In my opinion, the visiting party should have been told that they could have what was left when they got there - that was my understanding of the rules
Point is, I was told by a staff member in front of guests that societies get priority. Thats what got me frustrated. Now I know I can reserve one over the phone I'll do that in future - although I fail to see how it solves the problem as in my eyes I'm still booking it and I still dont see how thats 'first come first served'
